The Dayton Daily News recently published an extensive article on consumer debt and spending in the region. They throw out some staggering numbers:
60% of consumers don’t have a budget
24% of consumers aren’t paying bills on time
33% of households carry credit card debt from month-to-month
52% of consumers are not very confident or confident at all that they are saving enough for retirement.
One of the individuals interviewed is Leah Staggs, a former IDA participant from CAP of Greater Dayton, an Assets Ohio IDA Network sub-site. She shares her amazing story of overwhelming debt as a single mother with three kids, to homeowner through the financial tool of IDAs, financial literacy, and credit counseling. Read the article
